Choices Large

It’s one of those nights when there are a large number of good shows out there.  Depending on what you choose, you can see one, two or possibly three.  Here’s the rundown.

At City WineryAlejandro Escovedo and The Mastersons will reprise their show which I saw last night.  The Masterson, playing as a duo will feature songs from their fine roots rock album Birds Fly South plus some ones as well.  Alejandro Escovedo will lead his band The Sensitive Boys through songs drawn from all phases of Alejandro’s career.  The show will start at 8pm.

Also at 8pm, Richard Julian will bring his jazz-folk fusion tunes into the original stage at The Rockwood Music Hall.  Richard’s set is scheduled to go to 10pm.

Uptown in the Times Square area, Li’l Mo and The Monicats  will play Li’l Mo’s Birthday show at Connolly’s on 45th Street.  The show will start at 8:30pm, with Monica and the band playing rockabilly, honky-tonk country, r&b and swing.  Come early (7:30pm) if you’d like to get a dance lesson!

Alana Amram  can play and sing and tonight she’ll cook as well.  Head over to the Brooklyn Rod & Gun Club in Williamsburg, where at 9pm dinner will first be served by Alana.  That will be followed by music from Dawn Landes and then Alana Amram and The Rough Gems will provide the alt country.

Ulysses S. Grant is the name of a traditional country covers band with an all star cast: Pete Harper and J Blynn of Harper Blynn, Rich Hinman of many bands including The Madison Square Gardeners, Jim Campilongo, Chris Morrissey and Dan Reiser. Why the name Ulysses S. Grant? According to the band, it’s because USG was a great general and they are generally great.  The set get going at  The Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2 at 10:30pm.

Finally, Eric Ambel and Phil Cimino bring their guitar and drums duo, Gringoman into Otto’s Shrunken Head at midnight.
